I received a Ph.D. in Health Sciences and Technology, specialty in Nutrition, from the University of Lisbon, School of Medicine in 2022 and I am currently working in the Azorean Biodiversity Group, Agro(4)Care - Agroforestry Ecology research group of cE3c. I am also an invited professor of nutrition and ageing at the University of Lisbon. My research focuses on geriatrics, malnutrition, food intake, nutritional epidemiology and more recently on food contaminants.
For many years I have been involved in a population study about nutrition in Portuguese older adults using nutritional epidemiology methods. I am also a member of the board of specialty in Community and Public Health Nutrition of the Portuguese Nutritionists Professional Council and a working member of the PROGRAMMING cost action (funded by the EU). My current research is driven by three overarching objectives: (a) assess the risk of chemical contaminants due to food intake in the Azores , (b) promote the consumption of healthy, safe and sustainable foods in the Macaronesia region, particularly in the Azores, (c) improve the food habits and nutritional status among older adults.
