Summary:
ALSEMAC is an Interregional Cooperation initiative focused on the sustainable production and consumption of food, based on principles of efficient circular economy and food security. Its main goal is to promote the responsible consumption of safe, healthy, and sustainable (triple-S) foods within a circular economy framework.
The project comprises three work packages with specific goals aimed at driving the transition toward sustainable food consumption, supporting the use of good food production practices, and reducing the carbon footprint.
The archipelagos of Macaronesia and West African countries are marked by natural and social fragility; as a result, the populations in these regions live with a high dependency on external resources, especially when it comes to food. Nowhere else is the need for environmentally respectful food production and consumption more evident. It is therefore essential to promote local food consumption, encourage the circular economy, and reduce carbon emissions. Cooperation among regions facing similar challenges will provide a framework for exchanging information and implementing joint actions in a context of shared problems. The actions carried out through the project will ultimately benefit the entire population of the region.
The technical activities are aimed at public administration personnel, professionals in agriculture and health, field technicians, farmers, and food system operators.
