Duarte N. Guerreiro
ResearcherI received a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Galway (Ireland) in 2022 and am currently working in the Pathogen Biology & Global Health led by Prof. Monica V. Cunha. I am a lecturer in microbiology at the Faculty of Sciences of University of Lisbon. My research has been focused on stress sensing and adaption, as well as regulatory RNAs of bacterial pathogens, using a range of molecular approaches. During my Ph.D., I researched the environmental stress response mechanisms mediated by the stress-sensing hub known as the stressosome in the foodborne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes. Subsequently, during my postdoctoral research at the Umeå University (Sweden), I focused on structural changes of RNAs (riboswitches) of the human opportunistic pathogen Staphylococcus aureus. My current research interests center on bacterial adaptation mediated by molecular mechanisms, such as riboswitches, in response to stresses imposed by the host immune system during the early stages of infection.
