Fatima Jose Inacio Da Costa

Fatima Inacio Da Costa is conducting a Ph.D. in Genetic Biodiversity and Evolution by the University of Lisbon starting in 2024 within the Tropical Plants and Systems RG of CE3C. She is conducting the project entitled Restoration ecology and community sustainable management plans for restored mangrove areas: an integrated approach to climate change mitigation and livelihood alternatives, under the supervision of Luís Miguel Fazendeiro Catarino from CE3C, and Salomão Bandeira from Mozambique. Project aims are: analysis of different manipulative ecological restoration techniques in planted mangrove areas; estimation of carbon reserve capacity in above- and below-ground biomass and soil carbon; exploration of different alternative sources to mangrove products and analysis of technical, economic and social viability; preparation of sustainable community management plans for mangroves and evaluating their effectiveness in conserving biodiversity and forest ecosystem services.
