Fabio S. T. Sweet
ResearcherI received a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the Technical University Munich in 2023 and I am currently working in the Azorean Biodiversity Group. My current research here focuses on the study of macroecological patterns and processes on Islands.
For many years I have been involved in primarily Urban- and Social-Ecological research using Germany, and often more specifically the city of Munich in Bavaria, as model system. This lead to my involvement in the 'NEBourhoods' New European Bauhaus Lighthouse Project, as the representative of ECOLOPES (ECOlogical building enveLOPES), in which we produced the first clay-3D-printed Multispecies façade in Germany. I was also part of the BioBayGrün project, in which we investigated the change in plant biodiversity and community composition in Bavarian agricultural grasslands over a 70-year period.
My current research is driven by three overarching objectives: 1) Characterising major patterns of ecosystem structure and functioning, identifying key drivers and mechanisms of biodiversity loss using comprehensive spatial and temporal data; 2) Maximising synergies between taxonomists, evolutionary biologists, ecologists, and computer scientists to develop innovative tools and best practices; 3) Finding solutions to reverse the current global biodiversity crisis by transferring scientific knowledge and collaborating with other societal actors aligned with national and international strategies
