Tiago Gonçalves
PhD StudentTiago Gonçalves is conducting a Ph.D. in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution by the University of Lisbon, starting in 2026, within the Behavioural Ecology and Conservation (BEC) research group at CE3C. He is conducting the project "Unravelling the ecological role of rice fields for waterbirds: integrating movement ecology, fitness impacts, and human-wildlife conflict", under the supervision of Professor Teresa Catry (CE3C), Professor José Pedro Granadeiro (CE3C) and Dr Edna Correia (CE3C). Tiago's Ph.D. project aims to investigate the ecological role of rice fields for waterbird assemblages that traditionally depended on natural wetlands, evaluate the fitness consequences of such a transition for bird populations, and identify conditions enabling the long-term coexistence between waterbirds and rice production.
