The lecture will present historical data and analyses of contemporary climate conditions on the territory of Bulgaria, prepared by the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology. Numerous model studies show projections of warming and drought in the future climate. As a result of our own study, a deterioration in evapotranspiration conditions and an increase in water consumption in the agricultural areas have been established. Based on this knowledge, updated irrigation depths have been calculated for a large number of crops, for years with different wetting characteristics and for different thermal conditions. These irrigation depths were the basis for the approval by the Council of Ministers and the issuance in 2016 as a normative act of an Ordinance on Water Consumption Norms with wide practical application.
