Joana is conducting a Ph.D. in Ecology and Conservation Biology by the University of Lisbon starting in 2025 within the Ecophysiology of Small Mammals Group of CE3C. She is conducting the project "Recovery of the Iberian Water Shrew (Neomys anomalus): Ecological and Physiological Responses to Fire-Affected Riparian Landscapes", under the supervision of Joaquim Tapisso (CE3C), Sofia Gabriel (CE3C) and Sophie von Merten (PLUS, Austria). This project will investigate the ecological and physiological responses of the Iberian Water Shrew (Neomys anomalus) to wildfire disturbance in Mediterranean mountain stream systems, focusing on the Serra da Estrela Natural Park.
