Rani Rivière
PhD StudentRani de la Rivière is conducting a Ph.D. in Biology and Ecology of Global Changes by the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Sciences, starting in 2026 within the Pathogen Biology & Global Health. She is conducting the project NAME OF THE PROJECT, under the supervision of Dr. Manuela Caniça and Dr. Elsa Dias (National Health Institute Doutor Ricardo Jorge) and Dr. Mónica Cunha (Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon). Deepening the Origin, Dynamics and Fate of Antibiotic Resistance project aims are: (1) Characterize the ARGs of cultivable and non-cultivable bacteria in different compartments of an Open Air Laboratory. (2) Characterize the ARGs of cultivable bacteria from Portuguese hospitals’ patients and their respective environmental surfaces. (3): Assess the resistome, mobilome (e.g. plasmidome) and microbiome, to conclude about the availability of bacteria capable to uptake plasmids by conjugation and/or free DNA via bacterial transformation, to identify potential AMR transmission routes among reservoirs. (4): Develop new, real-time detection kit and device for early detection of ARGs in humans (point-of-care), animals and environmental compartments (on-site testing), to overcome the slowness and have a better sensitive tool than standard methods.
