João Rafael Rebouta Sobreira

João Rafael Sobreira holds a Bachelor degree in Biology from Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (CIÊNCIAS) and is curently an Applied Microbiology MSc student, developing the dissertation project entitled: "Functional Profiling of the Gut Rare Biosphere: Insights into Metabolic Potential and Antimicrobial Resistance", under the supervision of Professor Mónica V. Cunha at the Pathogen Biology & Global Health research group of CE3C. The main goal of this project is to characterize the rare biosphere of the gut microbiome of monogastric species using domestic pig as a model, through phenotypical, genomic and functional prediction analyses. The project aims to explore metabolic traits of rare taxa and their interactions within the gut niche, correlating these findings with the animal health status and herd management pratices.
