MSc StudentCatarina Duarte Gaspar holds a degree in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences from the Polytechnic University of Castelo Branco (Escola Superior de Saúde Dr. Lopes Dias) and is currently a Master’s student in Biomedical Sciences at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Nova University of Lisbon. Her MSc dissertation, supervised by Prof. Mónica V. Cunha at CE3C, focuses on the topic "Reconstructing S. aureus transmission chains at interfaces under the One Health Nexus," where she uses a combination of phenotypic and genotypic tools along with whole-genome sequencing (WGS) to generate and integrate real-time genomic, epidemiological, and ecological data from livestock, wildlife, and environment to reconstruct MRSA transmission chains at different levels. This research is conducted as part of an FCT-funded project (OCELOT) in close collaboration with the National Authority for Animal Health and Food Safety (DGAV), ACBM and the Portuguese Swine Producers Association (FPAS).
