Bárbara Wolckart Araújo
MSc StudentBárbara Araújo is a Master student in Biology by the University of Lisbon starting in 2024 within the EMDD CE3C. She is conducting the project Human myoblast growth and differentiation in healthy and a LAMA2-CMD (Laminin Subunit Alpha 2-related Congenital Muscular Dystrophy) patient derived cell lines; under the supervision of Prof. Dra. Gabriela Rodrigues, EMDD.
Bárbara Araújo's project aims are: Identify genes and proteins affected by the absence of LAMA2 during myogenesis, specifically during the proliferation and differentiation phases. Particular attention will be given to experimental conditions where laminin substrates will be used to evaluate the impact on cell behavior, as well as rescue preciously identified cell defects in our in vitro model. The fundamental purpose is to bring our in vitro model closer to reflecting the in vivo onset and progression of this disease.
