PhD StudentMiguel Filipe dos Santos Azevedo is conducting a PhD in Biology and Ecology of Global Changes at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, starting in 2021 within the Environmental Quality and Human Health Research Group of CE3C. He is conducting the project Wild bee ecology and pollination in Mediterranean agroecosystems, under the supervision of Prof. Maria Teresa Rebelo (CIÊNCIAS, CE3C) and Prof. Elisabete Figueiredo (ISA, LEAF). Miguel’s Ph.D. project aims are: (i) to evaluate the role of native bees in pollinating tomato crops; (ii) to compare pollination services between organic and conventional tomato farming systems; (iii) to study the nesting preferences of cavity-nesting bees in artificial trap nests across orchard landscapes; and (iv) to assess management measures to improve pollinator habitat and promote biodiversity.
