Carina Isabel Carvalho dos Reis is conducting her PhD in Ecology by the University of Lisbon - Faculty of Sciences, starting in 2016 within the Environmental Quality and Human Health (HuEL). She is conducting the project “Integrative Analysis of Forensically Important Sarcophagidae (Diptera): Genetics, Morphometrics, and Medico-Legal Casework in Portugal and Europe” under the supervision of Maria Teresa Rebelo – CE3C, Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes, University of Lisbon.
Carina Reis project aims are to: i) conduct a landmark-based geometric morphometric analysis of wings to support the identification of Mediterranean flesh flies of medical and forensic importance; (ii) evaluate the efficacy of two mitochondrial DNA loci (COI and ND4) for identifying flesh flies collected from carcass-baited traps, and (iii) Investigate the reliability of combining morphological and molecular characters for the accurate identification of Sarcophagidae species.
