External CollaboratorI earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon, in 2021. Currently, I lead the Research and Development department at BioTask – Biotecnologia, Lda. Additionally, I serve as a guest assistant professor at the University of Lisbon, teaching the bioremediation component of the Master’s program in Applied Microbiology.
My research focuses on bioremediation, adaptive evolution, and bioaugmentation. For several years, I have been actively involved in the application of biotechnological products for bioremediation strategies in both small- and large-scale wastewater treatment plants. I have also implemented adaptive evolution strategies to develop improved microbial strains for the design of advanced bioaugmentation products.
Currently, my research is guided by three main objectives: accurately measuring the impact of bioaugmentation products in laboratory-scale systems that simulate wastewater treatment processes; establishing stable exogenous microbial populations capable of enhancing biodegradation in contaminated environments and aquatic systems; and transforming selected microbial strains into viable and economically sustainable commercial products.
