Martim Melo
External CollaboratorI completed my undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Lisbon, followed by a Conservation Biology MSc at the University of Cape Town, and a PhD on bird speciation in the Gulf of Guinea at the University of Edinburgh.
My research focuses on the diversification of the bird fauna of Africa, and in particular in the islands of the Gulf of Guinea, the Afromontane and Scarp forests of Angola, and the Cape Verde archipelago. In parallel, I am actively involved in conservation research and action in these important centres of endemism. At CE3C, I work closely together with Ricardo Lima on the conservation of the endemic avifauna of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe.
I am a research associate at MHNC-UP (Natural History and Science Museum from the University of Porto) and at the FitzPatrick Institute of African Ornithology (University of Cape Town).
