The Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) diagnostic service at CE3C is a service that started in 2014 at NOVA Medical school and has migrated to FCUL in 2023. PCD is a rare disease with a penetrance of 1:7500 and affects different organs, namely from the respiratory, cardiovascular and reproductive systems. Our group is the only lab in Portugal trained to diagnose PCD in a consortia with different hospitals. In parallel, we study cilia biology in development and disease and investigate potential treatments for PCD using zebrafish as an animal model and primary cell cultures from patients.
