Global environmental change significantly threatens the capacity of ecosystems to sustain biodiversity and essential ecosystem services. Understanding how these systems withstand change is vital for long-term sustainability. This capacity is often referred to as resilience. Despite the increase in discussion around resilience in recent years, its implementation remains limited. In this presentation, I will provide an overview of the various facets of resilience, how they connect, and how this knowledge can be integrated into sustainable management. I will present previous findings on the sensitivity, adaptive capacity, and ecological stability of riparian ecosystems under environmental change. Furthermore, I will introduce ongoing research focused on stability and resilience of permanent grasslands and pastures under recent climate fluctuations. By bridging theoretical frameworks with case studies from different habitats, this talk aims to discuss the different facets of resilience and how they can be operationalized to inform management practices.
